Key State Scholarship Expansions will Allow More PTC Students to Attend College Tuition-Free

The daughter of a career law enforcement official from Edgefield County, Kylie Wash learned early on the value of a strong work ethic. The 20-year-old radiologic technology major and Piedmont Technical College (PTC) Presidential Ambassador aspires to live by her father’s example.

“My father devoted 24 years to the Edgefield County Sheriff’s Office and to the people of Edgefield County,” she said. “He has always put others before himself. … He has taught me so much about life and has told me forever to always work hard even if nobody notices because your actions can speak louder than words.”

Meth dealer sentenced to 25 years in prison

An Iva man will spend the next 25 years behind bars after an Abbeville County jury found the man guilty on one count of trafficking methamphetamine, 8th Circuit Solicitor David M. Stumbo announced Wednesday.

Kenneth Earle McGill, 67, was found guilty of trafficking methamphetamine, 100-200 grams, late Tuesday afternoon following a two-day trial at the Abbeville County Courthouse. Circuit Judge Donald Hocker then sentenced McGill to 25 years in prison. The crime is considered violent under state law and McGill will have to serve a minimum of 85 percent of the sentence before being considered for parole. McGill has at least two prior convictions for distributing methamphetamines.

Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta Announces Results of 2019 Board of Directors' Election

ATLANTA, November 6, 2019 – Federal Home Loan Bank of Atlanta (FHLBank Atlanta) today announced the results of the 2019 director election. The Bank conducted an election to fill the member directorship for South Carolina, and two independent directorships. Each of the directors-elect will begin a four-year term commencing on January 1, 2020.

Bomb threat found on bathroom wall at Northside

Yesterday Northside school administration received a report regarding a bomb threat written on a boys bathroom wall. Northside administration immediately contacted law enforcement and district officials.

Law enforcement and district officials arrived at the school and placed the school on a HOLD prior to conducting a search of the building. Nothing out of the ordinary was found. After receiving an all clear from law enforcement, the HOLD was lifted, and the school resumed normal operation.

Tree Lighting Ceremony to kick off holiday season at Lander University

Lander University will usher in the holiday season with its annual Holiday Tree Lighting Celebration on Tuesday, Nov. 19, beginning at 5 p.m. The festivities, which are open to the community, will be held on the front-campus area and Assembly Plaza.

Attendees will be able to enjoy a flurry of activities, including riding in a horse-drawn carriage, roasting marshmallows, competing in an ugly holiday sweater contest, having pictures taken with Santa, decorating ornaments and riding a Ferris wheel.
