Anne Nickerson “Nicki” Philcox, resident of 212 Bellefaye Lane, wife of John Philcox, went to be with the Lord on Tuesday, February 4, 2020.
Born in Torrington, Connecticut, Nicki graduated from Torrington High School in 1960. She received her Bachelor of Science in Physical Therapy from Boston University. Nicki loved being a physical therapist and spent her professional career caring for people in hospital, school and home healthcare settings. She helped pioneer home healthcare services in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
Nicki loved God all of her life. She was a longtime member of St. Luke’s Anglican Church in Hilton Head Island, South Carolina and attended The Lutheran Church by the Lake in McCormick. She adored her McCormick Bible Study group. Spiritual retreat weekends facilitated by Henri Nouwen and Tony Campolo at St. Lukes Anglican Church in Hilton Head Island were other highlights of her religious life.
In addition to her devotion to God, Nicki was passionate about reading. She was a frequent visitor to the McCormick Library and read at least one book every day.
Nicki’s surviving family includes John, her husband of 54 years; her daughter Carrie LoPresti (Peter) of Bixby, OK; her son, Todd (Christine) of Greenwood, SC; sisters, Janice Whiteman of Asheville, NC, Roberta (Peter) Bonalumi of Eastham, MA, and Dorothy “Dolly” Lamanna of Torrington, CT; brothers, Robert (Sharoyn) Nickerson, and Charles (Patty) Nickerson, all of Torrington, CT; five grandchildren, Joshua LoPresti, Meghan Philcox, Kynslea Philcox, Rhianna Philcox and Eric Philcox; as well as several nephews and nieces.
Memorial services will be conducted on Saturday, February 15, 2020 at 11:00 a.m. at The Lutheran Church by the Lake, 100 12 Oaks Drive (off Highway 378) in McCormick. The Reverend Jim Kinsler will officiate. The family will receive friends in the church social hall immediately following the service.
In lieu of flowers, Memorials may be made to either Hospice & Palliative Care of the Piedmont, 408 W. Alexander Avenue, Greenwood, SC 29646 or L’Arche Daybreak, Development Office, 11339 Yonge Street, Richmond Hill, Ontario, L4S 1L1, a charity near and dear to Nicki’s heart.
